Kitarō is a yōkai boy born in a cemetery, and aside from his mostly-decayed father, the last living member of the Ghost tribe. He is missing his left eye, but his hair usually covers the empty socket. He fights for peace between humans and yōkai, which generally involves protecting the former from the wiles of the latter.

Born in a cemetery, Kitaro is the last survivor of the ghost tribe. Raised by a human father, Mizuki, and accompanied by his biological father reincarnated as an eyeball, Medama Oyaji, the young Kitaro will have to learn to live in this world governed by science where yokai no longer have a place in popular belief.

The fake Kitaro walks around Hell with the chanchanko and plots with Nezumi-Otoko to obtain a large sum of money. Kitaro's father, Medama-Oyaji goes to hell and tries to bring Neko back.
