   The staff at Yan Oi Hospital take a different view on lives as well as personal values after the SARS outbreak. CHING CHI MEI PAUL is performing a brain operation on a patient who is suffering from Parkinson’s disease. As the operation is conducted when the patient is conscious, TSANG SUK KEI BETSY, an O & G (Obstetrics & Gynecology) intern, is present so as to learn from PAUL. Her superior, MAN ON SAN ANSON, is unhappy for her absence from her post without official. A & E (Accident & Emergency) consultant, LAI KWOK CHU HENRY, invites PAUL to her girlfriend, JAN’s, birthday party. HENRY knows then that PAUL is still in contact with his ex-girlfriend, HO SUM YIN. PAUL suspects that a female patient has contracted SARS. Since he is the Acting Executive Director of the hospital, he decides to activate the green alarm system, to block the relevant ward, and to strengthen the preventive measures.… ...

   YIN’s elder brother, HO CHI WANG ALAN, points the finger at PAUL. A friend of PAUL’s, TAM YUNG MING EDMOND, happens to know FRANCES as well. PAUL asks EDMOND to give him a helping hand and ask FRANCES if YIN has killed herself. Nevertheless, EDMOND refuses to help him. HEUNG CHUNG YAN CHRIS, an A & E doctor, has a very bad impression on PAUL because he cut off his relationship with YIN on the very day she had an abortion. PAUL is puzzled about YIN’s death and would like to contact her boyfriend, who is in Canada. Cardiac Surgeon LAM MAN CHI MC rents an A-class office to set up his own clinic. The hospital is holding a press conference to inform the public about the sealing-off of the O & G ward. As the press goes after PAUL for YIN’s death, the new Executive Director, TANG TAT YIN TY, chairs the conference on behalf of PAUL.… ...

   PAUL takes HENRY to see the old horse that he keeps. He tells HENRY why he bought it; HENRY can understand how he feels. GRACE is eager to find a man whom she can marry. CHRIS is her target. BETSY fails to keep a watchful eye on a girl, who is suspected to have been ill-treated, as told by HENRY. As a result, she is given a good telling-off. MC has lost many patients because of the lawsuit. MC mistakes that YEUNG has stolen PHOEBE’s computer and sold it. He apologizes to YEUNG when he learns about the truth. After carrying out a post-mortem, FRANCES comes to the conclusion that the statement given by the suspect of the family tragedy is not trustful. The suspect loses his control as soon as he hears this. He stops PAUL and others from rescuing his daughter and gets hold of GRACE. CHRIS is nearly killed when he is fighting with the man. Unfortunately, the girl dies. PAUL flies in to a rage and hits the man.… ...

   A woman, whose name is AH LING, takes her son to the A & E room. HENRY later knows that her husband is none other than HO TAK KWONG, an old friend of his. KWONG shows his concern for PAUL. As a token of gratitude, GRACE invites CHRIS, who has saved her life, to a dinner. To her disappointment, CHRIS brings ANSON along. He asks GRACE, whose family runs a furniture shop, for discounts. In order to pry into their lives, she grasps the opportunity to visit their place. ANSON sees through her intention. Fearing that his performance will be affected, MC refuses to undergo an operation. His relationships with YEUNG and PHOEBE respectively have been affected inversely as he tries to cover up his pain. The hospital has received complaints against PAUL. TY talks to PAUL about this and accepts his explanation. He also accepts PAUL’s request for taking a long leave. PAUL has been suffering from insomnia recently.… ...
