MAY and TING are two active girls at school. They have talents in performance, so they are chosen to perform a play in their school's fifty anniversary celebration and are highly acclaimed. SIN's mother is one of the maids of MAY's family. Since SIU and MAY are similar at age, they are very good friends indeed. In order to financially support her family and her gambler father, poor SIU starts her singing business at a very young age. During MAY's engagement party, her father Mr. FONG, is stunned to learn the bad news of his bankruptcy. He cannot bear the sudden shock and fans away.

After the sudden shock, old Mr. FONG suffers from a stroke. MAY's family is now penniless. Their poverty makes them loss all their wealthy friends and relatives, and also their big luxurious house. Since they are heavily in debt, MAY has to work as a maid to ease the financial problem of her family. Being bullied by the chauffeur one day, MAY angrily quit her job.

MAY meets her brother CHUNG again. CHUNG tells her their he cannot live with his godfather and mother and he thinks that he has been neglected by his parents. MAY tries to counsel him. Being introduced by SIU, MAY finds a job to look after the washroom of a nightclub. MAY's mother feels guilty but MAY does not mind. One night, TING's mother sees MAY in her working place. She is shocked and tells TING. TING is surprised on hearing the news. CHAU lusts after MAY. To win over her heart, he promises to make her a famous singer and improve her living condition. MAY is excited as she knows nothing about LUK's intension. CHEUNG and her mother are happy. SIU feels depressed as she is not so lucky. As it is MAY's first show on stage, CHAU spends much for advertisement and this brings the house down. YU SHUM and KAI IP also go to spend a night there and they find MAY looking familiar……

After punishing MAY, CHAU wants to rape her but she strikes against him and his attempt is in vain. At last MAY is released. TING has no interest in going to school. She begs MAY to bring her to show business, hoping to marry a rich man. To TING's sake, MAY refuses and TING is discontented. YU SHUM is unhappy with MAY's attitude so he and KAI IP book the nightclub and insult MAY. MAY sings with a great grief and they feel guilty. They want to say sorry but MAY turns away. As MAY runs away in rain, she is sick. TING takes MAY's place when she is ill and her performance is rather successful. She admires KAI IP and tries to flatter him. SIU's father is in a big debt. In order to pay it, he arranges SIU to accompany YUK LUN in Macau for seven days. SIU is taken in, thinking that she is going to marry LUNG. She is shocked when she knows the truth.

LUN has pity on SIU and treats her good. SIU is touched and love brings them together. KA CHUNG is going to leave Hong Kong with his godfather and mother. MAY knows that he does not want to leave and argues with them. His godmother scolds CHEUNG eating his words. At last KA CHUNG has to leave reluctantly. TIN tries to attract KAI IP and with every means to flatter him but he is not impressed. She feels disappointed. YU SHUM meets MAY again and he makes use of the chance to express his frank apology and MAY is impressed and accepts him. However she cannot tell him her feeling. LUNG has to return to the USA to continue his studies. He gives SIU a ring as a gift and SIU is sad. MAY's mother is so careless that CHEUNG stumbles over. He is sent to hospital but it is too late. He dies. MAY is sad.

In CHEUNG's funeral, YU SHUM calms MAY DOWN and CHAU is jealous. SIU wants MAY to help her become a singer again. She also reminds MAY to grasp the chance as YU SHUM can be her good husband. MAY is convinced and meets YU SHUM. However it is witnessed by a reporter and this meeting becomes a headline in the newspaper. KAI FONG is going to marry YU SHUM and she is angry when she reads the news. Thus she holds a ball and MAY is employed to sing in it. MAY thinks that it is YU SHUM's idea and is depressed. Although KAI IP wants to explain, she runs away. With the help of her mother, TING finally manages to seduce KAI IP.
